I watched a short video on Facebook where loved ones were asked to stare into each other’s eyes for four minutes. What happened in that short amount of time was absolutely incredible. A mother saw her son as a grown man for the first time, sisters were overwhelmed with emotions of being reconnected, a daughter noticed the wrinkles on her father’s face and was reminded of the frailty of life, spouses giggled as they “saw” each other for the first time in a long time… Needless to say, it resonated with me.
The lord brought this video back to my mind one morning as I was praying in my car on my way to work. I sensed God gently reminding me of how WE hadn’t reconnected in a while. He reminded me of something I once told a client during a counseling session- “I sense that you’re distracted and God is saying “look into my eyes. Right here. Just stay with me, I know there’s a lot going on around you but look right into my eyes. Focus on them. Look right here…”” Little did I know, that very message was for me too.
God used this video and a recollection of a counseling session to reveal something so incredibly important to me- I need to stop often and reconnect with Him. I need to take more time to gaze into the eyes of my Dad. To see his heart and to hear His lovely voice speak over me. I was reminded that to know Him I need to lean in close, to remove myself from the overwhelmingly amount of distractions around me, just fix my eyes on Him.
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4
I pray this would be the cry of my heart. If you’re reading this, would you pray for me? As always, I’ve prayed it over you.
